Travels-ETC

Wednesday April 16th
Another morning to be greeted by a lock and another boat in the Austrian town of Melk. We’ve been traveling along the Danube with a sister ship. They dock tandem and today was our turn to be the outside ship; so our window was next to the windows on the other ship.
After breakfast we boarded busses in the rain heading to the Abbey. Wanted to sing the Sound of Music songs but I got the “look” from Brad. This was another breath taking structure. I’m certain there is more gold there than Fort Knox! Hope the pictures do justice to the beauty we saw today.
At noon the ship set sail again for Linz Austria. During the trip we moved through many more locks and took in the views of tiny quaint villages as well as many industrial areas. Seems there is as much mistletoe along the Danube as can be found in North Carolina/Virginia. We also had tea in the lounge, German lessons, a talk about Bavaria, music, and beer-pretzels-and white sausage. The beer glasses were still on the tables when we were informed dinner would be served in the dinning room. Can’t believe all the food.
Before dinner was over we were docking in Linz. Here many people took a walk into town (told to be back by 2am) to see more fountains, statues, castle walls, and churches. It was pretty chilly out there so we didn’t stay long but found this college town interesting and a very busy place.
We set sail for Passau at 2:30am - been a long interesting day.
