Friday April 11th
Started off the morning with a wonderful breakfast in the hotel dining room. Three types of smoked fish, eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt including Activa, and much much more! We then went to the Viking Tour desk where we were told of the many changes to our trip. Apparently there is much work being done on the waterways; so we will not be boarding our ship on Sunday. We get to stay here at the motel one more day and have dinner in one of the hotel’s restaurants. Monday at 8am we will board a bus for Slovakia somewhere, and stay at another motel and be bussed to the ship on Tuesday. And since the 16 locks (the experience I had looked forward to) will be closed for maintenance we only get to sail until Friday. Then we will spend the last two days in a motel in Nuremberg. But this too may change daily so…
Anyhow we met our tour guide Reka, after breakfast. We experienced a wonderful 4 hour walking tour of this fantastic Castle District. Even had the opportunity to see the changing of the guard at the President’s Building. There was so much to see that pictures will handle it better. So just check out the slide show please.
After the tour we took a nap then went out on our own for the late afternoon and evening. Did some shopping, had cucumber salad and Paprikas Csirke-chicken paprikas for dinner at a cute outdoor café. Walked some more and took some beautiful evening shots including a rainbow that extended from Buda to Pest across the Danube - wow! Just a beautiful evening, light rain and all.
Since we won’t be sailing out of Budapest we booked a river cruise for tomorrow, Saturday to enjoy the sites we otherwise would be missing. Therefore it’s bedtime.
