Friday April 18th
As we docked in Deggendorf Germany, I was informed that Pope Benedict spent most of his years in Regensburg ( the town we are about to visit) rather than Passau, and this is where his brother lives today-sorry. So we prepared for the long day and boarded a bus for Regensburg. It’s a very old, 7th Century and before, medieval town. After a tour, we had lunch at a Beirgarten in a castle.
Back on the bus we were headed to a tour boat to take us through the Danube Gorge and to the Benedictine (thus the Pope’s name) Abbey, home of the oldest beer on earth. Brad finds it interesting that we are in the Pope’s hometown while he is in the USA.
After the Abbey tour, it’s on the bus again going back to the ship. Tonight we have the Captain’s Dinner a farewell party, and pack. In the morning we leave the ship and head to Nuremberg by bus because the upcoming locks are closed for repair and we cannot get from the Danube to the Main River that would have taken us to Nuremberg. We’ll be staying at a motel after our tour of Nuremberg and a trip to the War Museum.
And Sunday we will head home. Not sure what type of internet connections will be available; so don’t worry too much if you don’t hear much the next couple days. But be prepared because I have over 1000 pictures to edit and share with you. It’s now Saturday morning and I better get out to the lounge and use up my internet time to get this posted.
